Simulated work experience

For the simulated work experience, I worked with Jessica on her lovely stop-motion piece about a book worm. I did one environment design and two detailed prop design sketches for the film.

Library Design

It was super interesting to work with others on their film. Jessica had made adorable puppet worm and design for the protagonist, so I sketched some thoughts about layout in the library first. Then some detail drawing to make everything clear.

After these I provided some references of library and working desk, seems like it is a better idea to get inspired directly from real-life photography.

Desk

The whole process went smoothly and we are happy with the result! After working in professional team as inbetween artist and helped students build their works, I was surprised by how much my communication skill had improved. On top of that, I was really enjoy the process of helping others explore their idea.

Bookshelf

In order to keep on with the team, I am good at mimic certain art style & deliver things on time. However, after image generative appears, some part in the early production (especially in game industry) has already been taken. It is wise to keep updated with latest tools and works. I’m planning practice with blender and grace pencil in the next half of year, along withCartoon shader to help with background making.

I still have a long way to go with layout design & visual storytelling, too. I will continue to dive in great films, musical, comics and all sort of things. Those inspirations from other art form have always give me better ideas.

During the process, I am also confused by “what I am good at” between “what industry needed”. Afterall, It seems like a stressful idea to compete with AI (either speed or render qualitied) I guess the best way is learning Ai as a helpful tool, and don’t be frightened by it.
